DENTAL ASSISTANT
Dental assistants greatly increase the efficiency of the dentist in the delivery of quality oral hygiene. They perform many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills. Dental assistants prepare patients for the dentist’s examination, take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays), sterilize and disinfect equipment and prepare tray setups for dental procedures. DENTAL HYGIENIST
Dental hygienists are licensed professionals who help dentists provide treatment and care of the mouth, teeth, and gums. Since each state has its own specific regulations regarding their responsibilities, the range of services performed by hygienists varies from state to state. They remove calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth.
